From Fairway to Rain Delay: Turning a Mid-Event Storm into a Memorable Engagement

NRG turned to Best.Day.Ever. for the 5th year in a row to host its annual golf invitational at Tiger Woods’ Bluejack National course in Montgomery, Texas. The event brought together over 75 people sourced from some of NRG’s most valued clients with the goal of further developing the already strong and meaningful relationships with current brokers and prospects. 

The event is booked over a year in advance and every detail was meticulously taken care of so that NRG could focus on optimizing its time on-site creating lasting memories and exploring potential deals with its VIP guests. 

Calm Before the Storm: 

The day started with ground transportation from the hotel directly to Bluejack National where guests would spend the entirety of the event. Upon arrival, guests indulged in a deluxe breakfast buffet to fuel themselves before the day of golf ahead.  

Before guests made their way to their designated tee boxes, which were in shotgun-start formation to optimize guests’ time on the course, they were checked in and received pre-event gifts. The gifts featured custom Bluejack branded hats, Smithers & Branson golf belts, and Peter Millar polos. Guests then received their tee-time and cart assignments before hitting the links.  

 Adapting with an Unpredictable Environment: 

With any outdoor event, weather is always a factor. As it turned out, the course’s bunkers and lakes weren’t the only hazards our guests had to navigate.  

After making it through just four holes, rain and lightning forced a pause in play before the rain and lightning proved to be too much to play through. Depending on their location, half the group sought shelter at the 12th Hole Jerky Shack and Candy Shop, while the other half waited out the rain at the Main Clubhouse. Fortunately, both spots offered a comfortable refuge, complete with food, an open bar, and plenty of snacks to keep the wait enjoyable.  

As soon as it was determined that play could not resume, Best.Day.Ever. sprang into action, quickly making the necessary adjustments to ensure guests still enjoyed an unforgettable experience. Without missing a beat, our team organized prompt transportation via golf carts and shuttles, efficiently bringing everyone to the main clubhouse. Once there, the scheduled dinner was moved up and served as a delicious lunch, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the change of plans. 

After the meal, the excitement continued with a live raffle, instead of the planned on-course contests, where guests had the chance to win fantastic prizes, including autographed Texans memorabilia and Bluejack Pro Shop gift cards. Best.Day.Ever. ensured the energy stayed high despite the weather, turning the unexpected into a memorable moment. 

As the event wrapped up, our team adjusted the schedule once again, arranging ground transportation earlier than planned to ensure all guests could safely return to their hotel. Throughout the entire process, Best.Day.Ever. maintained constant communication, keeping everyone well-informed and ensuring a smooth transition from one activity to the next. No matter the circumstances, Best.Day.Ever. is committed to delivering exceptional events with precision, flexibility, and a focus on guest experience.
